The Nocatee Parkway is a limited-access freeway that provides access to the Town of Nocatee, a 14,000-acre master-planned “new town” that spans the northeast portion of St. Johns County and the southeastern corner of Duval County. STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates provided design and post-design services for eight bridges and numerous other structures for the two-phase development, which recently opened to traffic. The road provides easy access to Jacksonville, I-95 and the new Florida 9B for residents of Nocatee and elsewhere. The parkway is also a critical hurricane evacuation route for area residents.
Performed preliminary layout and final design, including substructure and superstructure design and detailing, of a single-span, 75’ long prestressed concrete AASHTO girder bridge and a 263’ long, single-span steel plate girder bridge utilizing Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). For Phase II, performed analysis and design of three-span continuous, curved steel plate girder and its deck design. Also responsible for the QC of prestressed beam design and pile load calculations for a multi-span tapered and curved ramp.
